Beads & Buttons Design – Diseño de Cuentas & Botones

ENGLISH

Nirvana Beads is an online wholesale bead and button store based in New York. They customize their own productions to create more imaginative choices for their customers. They deliver “artist to artist” merchandise while supporting traditional Czech bead craftsmanship. Their specialties are Czech Beads and Buttons.

I design all the glass beads and buttons. I select the shape, the color of the glass, and the cuts and coatings that will be applied to these beads or buttons. These designs are sent to factories in the Czech Republic for manufacturing. Once produced, they are shipped to the United States for sale. Dozens of designs are submitted for production annually.

Nirvana Beads es una tienda en linea que vende al mayoreo cuentas y botones de Republica Checa, con sede en Nueva York. Personalizan sus propias producciones para crear opciones más imaginativas para sus clientes, entregando productos mas artisticos, mientras continúan apoyando la artesanía tradicional checa.

Yo diseño todas las cuentas y botones de vidrio: escojo la forma, el color del vidrio, los cortes y revestimientos que se aplicaran a estas cuentitas o botones. Estos diseños son mandados a las fábricas en República Checa y una vez manufacturados, son enviados a Estados Unidos donde principalmente se venden. Mando a producción decenas de diseños al año.

The images above depict button molds (left) and glass bead molds (right). Dozens upon dozens of molds have been used since the 1800s! When designing a button, I select the mold, the glass color (see below), and the coatings or paint that will be applied to the button. A specialist then manually presses the glass rods into it. If I am designing beads, I first choose the glass color (see below). The mold is placed into a machine that presses the glass rods automatically. After the bead is pressed, the selected cuts and coatings are applied

The image below represents one of the glass color sample cards that I utilize, with each color having its own unique code. Glass can exhibit a variety of appearances, such as transparent, opaque, opal, or combined. Some of the most sophisticated glass colors are even made with gold! Over time, I’ve learned how colors interact with different chemical coatings and how they behave when combined with other colors.

Las imágenes de arriba son moldes de botones (izquierda) y moldes de cuentas de vidrio (derecha). ¡Hay docenas y docenas de moldes que se han utilizado desde los 1800! Si voy a diseñar un botón: elijo el molde, el color del vidrio (ver más abajo) y los recubrimientos o pintura que se le aplicarán al botón. Una persona especializada presionará manualmente las varillas de vidrio en él. Si voy a diseñar cuentas, primero elijo el color del vidrio (ver más abajo). El molde se coloca en una máquina que prensará las varillas de vidrio automáticamente. Una vez prensadas las cuentas, se le aplicarán los cortes y revestimientos que yo haya seleccionado.

La imagen de abajo, es uno de los muestrarios de los colores de vidrio que yo uso, cada color tiene su propio código. El vidrio puede ser transparente, opaco, opal, combinado, etc. ¡Algunos de los colores de vidrio más sofisticados están hechos con oro!. Hasta ahora he aprendido como estos colores se comportan con otros revestimientos quimicos o como se comportan al combinarse con otros colores.
